Changing initial file listings to "detail" format ?

When I click on an application folder the files it contains come up as
icons.

I have to go to the "view" menu to change to the "detail" format.

Is there some way I can have them come up first in the detail form?

Yes, select Details, then click Tools>Folder Options>View tab>
click Apply to All Folders. You are limited to 400 folders by default.
If you have large directories this limit can be extended to 8000

1) Doublick click the folder you want to open.
2) Change the folder view to detail view or whatever is you
preference.
3) Go to the menubar and select Tools/Folder Options/click the Vie
tab
4) Click the option to display all folders with format the same as th
currently open folder. They _should_ now open with your desire
format.

Footnote.
After you've done all that, you can go to My Docs - or whatever folder(s)
you'd prefer to have in Icon view and just change those via the 'View' menu
only.
Those folders will stick in 'Icon' view & the rest will stay as 'Details'.
