Purchased XP Pro for my new Dell which is running XP Home. Do I have to
remove the Home version first? If so, what happens to other files like
Excel, my video, audio, picture files, etc?

You can install Pro over HE without any issues, other than loosing all
security patches.

Personally I wouldn't unless you need enterprise level security and
networking capability which you don't unless you need to join a domain.

Home will upgrade to Pro just fine. Before you start make sure you have
scanned for and removed any spyware (with AdAware and Spybot Search and
Destroy) and done a full virus scan. It helps to defrag the Home system if
you have not defragged before. If you bought the Upgrade edition of Pro,
keep your Home cd afterwards as it becomes part of the Upgrade license.

Pro offers quite a number of services and capabilities not present in Home,
so it is never wrong to Go Pro.
