I frequently get files from tohers that has different formatting than my
defaults (i.e. like HEading1, Normal, etc). I also frequently do send to from
powerpoint to word. In bothe of these cases the format is different from
mine. It would be nice if word could ask to use the original formatting or
convert to my default format. It would save me a great deal of time since I
am doing this several times a day with large documents.

You can copy styles from one document to another using the Organizer found
under Tools/Templates and Add-ins.

Additionally, when create PowerPoint slides using a outline in Word the
styles update to those of your Masters, i.e. Slide Master/Title Master. If
you are manually changing formats in PowerPoint on each slide then you may
want to hop over to the PowerPoint newsgroup and learn about Slide Masters.
