We have a super simple database that we were using basically to store our
excel tables and print prettier versions of what we already had. I'm trying
to increase our usage with menus and stuff, and to sell it I want to make it
as visually apealing as possible. I'm really really really novice here, and
now that I have the form making down I can't figure out a way to make it look
nice. Where is a good source (lebans is too advanced) that I can pick up good
form formatting techniques that will help me impress the boss?

The best advice I can give is simply look at existing commercial
applications on your computer now, and emulate whichever software package
you like. (in other words, pick what ***YOU*** like).

I have some screen shots of "grids" in ms-access here, and that should give
you some ideas:

And, here is some other screen shots:

And, here is some tips on using menus and some ideas for usability in
ms-access:
http://www.members.shaw.ca/AlbertKallal/Articles/UseAbility/UserFriendly.htm

And, the access blog (run by the actual team that writes ms-access) **just**
posted some nifty screen shots of applications that us the ribbon. You find
that here:
http://blogs.msdn.com/access/

(some *really* nice looking screen shots in the above).

And, the old classic:

Interface Hall of Shame

the above is great read....

Really, at the end of the day, how you make things look is quite much up to
your imagination, and simply look at existing software on your computer to
get
ideas....

And, if you want to read a really nice on-line (free) book for writing good
software, Joel on software here has a great book, it quite short, and I also
recommend you read this:

You can also purchase the above book on Amazon...
