changing font color on desktop

how do you change the color of the font on your desktop.
the description that is located under the icon, and how
do you enclose the description with colored box around it
instead of just showing the text.
 
You can't change the font color if you're using the Windows XP theme.
(There are probably third party utilities that might allow you to do that,
but as is, you can't) You can however put a box around the text:

Right click the My Computer desktop icon, left click Properties. When the
System Properties window opens click the Advanced tab. Under the heading
Performance click the Settings button. When the Performance Options window
opens click the Visual Effects tab. Then scroll down to the option: Use
drop shadows for icon labels on desktop. Click to REMOVE the check mark to
the left of that item. Then click the Apply and OK buttons at the bottom of
the window. Then click the OK button on the remaining window.
