Changing File associations

Can you change a file's association? When I download
something, either a zip file or any other file, it shows
as a Word document. When I click on my download it opens
up in word. Not sure how this happened or for how long,
it is on my moms computer. She is running Windows 2000 I
think. When I right click and hit properties it shows it
as a zip file but will not unzip. And I cant find winzip
on her comp, im thinking the winzip selfextractor is
built in to windows somehow cause when I use the find
option it wont show up. Thanks
