Changing default pst

O

old guy

Not sure how to attack this problem so someone will understand.
Outlook 2002 / WinXP
Currently, when I open Outlook, I can see two pst files on the extreme
left (folder list?) - one I will call 'husband', the other 'wife.pst.'
When I right-click on 'wife.pst' one option is 'Close wife.pst.' When I
right-click on husband one option is 'Close Outlook today' but it is
grayed out. Mine, I think, is the default for Outlook.
What I would like to do (I think) is swap the default - that is, my
wife's pst is the default in Outlook and mine is not.
Actually, my goal is a little involved. Just bought my wife a
Windows-based PDA that syncs with Outlook 2002. However, when it syncs,
it syncs to 'husband' (Outlook Today) amd not to hers. Tech support
says the PDA syncs to the default - mine. My goal is to get my wife's
to be the default. folder. Guidance please.

Open Outlook and select Tools | Email Accounts. View/Change accounts.
There should be a dropdown at the bottom left of the dialog that will let
you select the other PST file. OK out and then restart Outlook.

Neo supplied one answer, but I'd recommend having two mail profiles: one for
you and one for your wife. You can have Outlook ask which profile to use
when it starts. That way you can completely separate the two users and
you'll get your mail delivered to your PST and she'll get her mail in (and
can sync with) her PST. By following Neo's advice, her PST will be the
default and all mail (yours and hers) will be delivered to it. You'll need
rules to move your mail to your PST.

OK with me. One question. When I place the PDA in the cradle, how will
it know which Outlook profile to open?

If you've enabled the option to ask, you'll be asked.

Just a few follow-ups.
How do I enable/disable the 'ask' option.
When I put the PDA in the cradle, I will be asked which to use?
What happens if both profiles open?

OK, changed my wife's email to default.
Closed and reopened Outllok. Placed the PDA in the cradle and let it
sync (used the 'PC data overwrites PDA data' option). It still uses my
Calendar and Contacts info - not hers (now the default). What am I missing?

Control Panel>User Accounts>Mail>Show Profiles. Select the "Prompt for a
profile to be used" radio button.

If the above button has been selected, you should.

Only one profile at a time can be open. Your only choices are to ask or to
always use one specific profile.

Does this mean I can not have 2 instances of Outlook open at one time
(mine and my wife's)?

If you both have individual Windows accounts and, in those accounts,
individual mail profiles, yes, in that you can use Fast User Switching
between your accounts, leaving Outlook open. If you mean within a single
Windows account, then no. Only one mail profile can be opened at any one
time. Multiple instances of Outlook will all use the same profile.
