When I bought my notebook, it was my friend who helped me unpack the Vista
Home Premium included in my notebook so she typed in her name. Now that I
want to change the administrator account name I am able to do so, but when I
view accounts using explorer I can still see my friends name under the folder
USERS. I tried renaming it before but I get the message "I do not have
permission to do that." Now I'm trying again the rename option isn't
available. How do you rename it?

You can't rename the folder. The way to do it is create a new user account
with the name you want. Login to that account at least once, then copy the
data and settings from the old account to the new. Right click Computer |
Properties | Advanced System Settings in the left pane | User Profiles -
Settings. Highlight the profile you want to copy from, click Copy To, and
specify the account to copy to.

After using the new profile for awhile, if all is well, delete the old one
from that same dialog box.

Do I copy while logged on as the new administrator or the existing one? The
copy options are both unavailable if logged on as the new administrator.
While logged on as the existing administrator I can only copy profiles from
the new one to the old one. Is that correct?

Hi there,

You need to create a 3rd user actually that has Admin rights. Create user
A, log on once and be sure to re-start, not just log off.
Log on as User B, then highlight the Admin profile, Copy To User A
profile... it will prompt you that you will be over-writing, that's o.k. as
there isn't anything special. When done, log off as B and on as A and you
should be good to go.

Cheers
Craig
