Normally the user (a pupil in a school) is prevented from access to all
system changes, however some "bright" individual has managed to change the
font on some files and folders in her 'My Documents' folder and sub-folders.
Any clues as to how this occurred anbd how to reverse it and prevent it
happening again.
Pupils are restricted by policies to any control panel functions, no
right-click on desktop.

One thing the student may of managed was to delete a font that is used by
the system. When this happens the computer then substitutes a different font
in its place.

Not in this case, the students have no direct access to the local drives. The
font used isn't one that normally comes with Windows - and the students don't
have the facility to install fonts (well normally!)

I recall about 8 years doing Mac support in a college and the students would
be quite good at deliberately or otherwise messing up the desktop.

User have access to 'Cmd' or 'Command'. Can access Start Menu | Run? Have
access to the Address Bar in Windows Explorer?
Does user have access to rundll32 and any of the control panel's *.cpl
files?
Can they write programs?

Network policies prevent access to Cmd/Command/Run.
Access to C: is prevented in the explorer address bar
No direct access to *.cpl
As for writing a program, most of them can't write their name.

Further investigation shows that the folder/file name font is not on the PC,
I can see the "corrupted" file name from my PC yet if I (from my PC) create a
file or change a "corrupted" file name, then the correct system font is used.
