How can I change preassigned shortcuts in Windows XP professional? It's quite
strange, but pressing ALT opens the "search window". I'd rather like to
assign ALT+s to "Seach", as it is usually the case...

Thanks.

Well, yes. What you said works fine. But the problem is, that pressing ALT
also opens this window. That's what I want to change.

You may have a stuck key on your keyboard. Pressing the Alt key by itself
should not be a shortcut to anything. Unless you have Hide underlined
letters for keyboard navigation until I press the Alt key selected here...
Right click the Desktop | Properties |
Appearance tab | Effects button |
Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until I press the Alt key

[[Specifies whether to suppress the drawing of keyboard shortcuts (the
underlined characters in menus and controls) and input focus indicators (the
dotted rectangles around objects), until you actually start using the
keyboard to navigate in Windows, generally with the ALT, TAB, or arrow
keys.]]

The only time Alt + S should do anything is if S is an underlined letter in
a menu or if you are in a Help Viewer, then ALT+S displays the Search tab.

Or maybe you have some sort of hotkey program on your machine.

The Hide underlined
letters for keyboard navigation until I press the Alt key was selected, but
unselecting it didn't change anything... And I don't think that I have a
hotkey program (unless it came with another program). Thanks for your help
anyway!
