Being responsible for a server is a little bit like driving
a big truck. You can probably do it if you know how
to drive a small car but sooner or later you are likely to
come to grief.

Your questions in this and in other newsgroups suggest
that your experience with Windows in general and with
servers in particular is still limited. My considered advice at
this stage would be for you to attend a full-time server
training course as soon as possible, before your business
suffers irrepairable damage. If you should lose important
and irreplaceable business data for some reason then your
manager is unlikely to accept an explanation such as
"I never received proper server training". He is more likely
to say "We lost our key client due to your incompetence".

I urge you to act now, to avoid this unpleasant situation.

HI Pegasus

I'm not a system administrator and as you as you saw from my posts I'm more
programmer.

The thing is that our win 200 server (for intranet crashed yesterday) and I
was able to repair it, all I want know is to continue the setup and I have to
change the username.

By the way, the person that setup all the network, give us a course how to
manage and how to reinstall the server if it's crash, but he didn't mention
anything about my question here. And acctually he left the entreprise

thanks

Mmh. Your system administrator has left the company, so your
trucks are now coasting along without a qualified driver . . .
I recommend you make your reservations known to management
while things are going fine, in writing. It will be too late when
disaster strikes and everyone ducks for cover.

To rename the administrator's account on a Win2000 machine,
run compmgmt.msc, open "Local Users and Groups", "Users",
then right click the Administrator and rename the account.

To register the machine on the domain, get into Control Panel /
System / Network Identification / Properties.

Good luck. You might need it.

Hi Pegasus

Thank you very very much for your answer, As you said I really need the GOOD
LUCK (but where can I find it)

I was able to change the username

but for the domain I'm not able to add this machine to the domain

I have this message:

The following error occured validating the name DDMath-01 the specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted

This machine is(Win2000 server) attachedf with a cable to the switch and the
domain(Win2000 server)

Thsnk you very much for your help it'll really appreciated

1. Turn off this machine's firewall until finished.
2. Start a Command Prompt on the machine that you
wish to register on the domain.
3. Ping the domain controller. Does it work?
4. Check the domain name. It ***cannot*** be the same as
the name of the domain controller.
5. Try to join the domain.
