Hello, I built my new computer online and had to use my
fathers credit card. I got them to install windows and
check to make sure all of the hardware was functioning
properly. The only problem is that when they went
through all of the XP installation, they entered my dads
name into everything so now he has the default naem for
everything. I know how to change the user accouint name,
but is there any way to change the name that was entered
when windows was installed? (ie when the screen saver
goes off and asks for a password, the default name is
still my dads)

Any hewlp would be gre3atly appreciated,

Thanks alot!

Greetings --

Well, if your Dad paid for the PC, isn't it really his, anyways?

To fix the "Registered to" information for WinNT/2K/XP, you can
use
Start > Run > Regedit.exe to edit:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\RegisteredOwner

and:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current
Version\RegisteredOrganization

How this will affect the name displayed in previously installed
applications will vary depending upon each individual program; some
read the registered owner information dynamically, while others read
it only during installation.

The C:\Documents and Settings\Username folders _cannot_ be
renamed, even if the associated user account has been. So, your best
course of action would be to log on using the built-in Administrator
account, create a new user account, with the username desired. You
can then delete the old user account(s).
