Can someone please help me, I can't find the way to change the email download
frequency for Outlook.

Version?
In 2003, it's Tools-->Options, Mail Setup tab. Click on Send/Receive button,
and change the value in "Schedule an automatic send/receive every..."

In 2000, it's Tools / Options, Mail Delivery tab, check "Check for
messages every..." and change the value.

I check for new mail automatically every three minutes here,
using Outlook 2003. Admittedly it's overkill, but I've never had
any server problems, or any other kind of problems, doing this.

It depends on the number of accounts and your connection. Many people are
collecting from multiple accounts over dial-up and have their send/receive
intervals set very low, causing corruption to the .srs file which must be
rebuilt. An interval of 10 minutes allows for all accounts to be checked,
handshakes to be concluded and the user time to sort and read mail.

I always recommend no less than a 10 minute interval to users who ask. And
no one has posted back to complain.

I have to agree with Milly. My server gets "cranky pants" if I check my mail
too often, and I'm not even on dialup.

I have my Outlook configured to check once every minute and seldom run
into problems.

Interesting! I currently collect from three accounts over DSL,
but in the past I've collected from as many as five or six (most
had very low activity though). As I said, I've never had a
problem checking every three minutes, but since you think that
there's a risk of corruption, I just changed it to ten minutes,
which is really good enough for me.

How many accounts are you checking and what is your connection type? One
account using broadband is very different from using 6 accounts and dial-up.
