Is it possible to make the system font bold??

You could try right-click on an empty space of the desktop, choose
Personalize. Then, Window Color and Appearance. There is a link called
"Open Classic appearance properties for more color options"

There are various color schemes, Effects and other options to try.

Sure. Right click the desktop. Select Personalize from the menu. Select
Window Color and Appearance. If using AERO, select Open classic appearance
properties for more color options. Select your Color Scheme. Click Advanced.
Select the item you want and change fonts, font size, color, bold and
italicize.
