Change look of desktop

Is it possible to check the look of the desktop so that it looks like the
"View List" option for viewing folders? I would like it so that the icon is
nice and small with the name of the file/link to the right of the icon. Then
I could have a nice list. Maybe this is only possible as an html view.

Thanks Gary, seems stupid to have all those options in folder view but not
for the desktop, but it doesn't surprise me.
