I'm trying to download a document from the internet but my computer opens it
under Notepad as the default. How do I change that to open files in Word.
I'm running Vista now.
Thanks!

Control Panel>(Classic View) Default Programs>Associate a file type or
protocol with a program

Find the extension of the file (eg. .txt or .doc), select it and click on
Change Program.

To open a particular file, right click, select open with.

To make GLOBAL changes so a certain fly type ALWAYS opens a file type,
go to Control Panel, Classic View,Default Programs.

Now pick Associate file type (this is the same procedure as used to be
in XP accessed from Windows Explorer) wait while Windows generates the
complete list, which take take awhile if you have a lot of file types,
then run down the list, find your file type you want to change, click
on it, then associate it with a new application.
