change fields displayed in global address list

We would like to change the fields displayed in the global address list.
E.g., we would like to display the descriptions of distibution lists. How
can you change the view for GAL?

BTW, I'm not talking about changing the fields you see after you open a
contact in GAL, but rather changing the fields in the view that contains the
list of contacts.
