How does one change the defaults when printing in B&W or Grayscale so that
the background in the slide templates still print?? I have one presentation
that will print the template backgrounds in all 3 print modes .. but the rest
of my presentations don't print the backgrounds .. how can I change the
default??

Leo,

I'm not sure about changing the "default", but you can change how an
existing presentation will print by choosing "view > black and white", then
right click any object in your presentation, and choose "black and
white"....then an option "e.g. black, white, light grayscale etc".

If you cannot select the background, then it's on "format > background >
fill effects > picture".

thank you for your reply but my problem still remains ... firstly, am using
office '03 - when I go to view - I must go to view>color/gray scale -- then
there is option color/grayscale/pure b&W -- no light grayscale/etc. when I
choose b&w or gray scale, the result is a print that DOES NOT contain the
default background. I am using a standard ms powerpoint template -
texture.dot. I do not understand yoiur comment re right clicking -- when
I right click on an object I get the standard pop up window that runs from
Cut to Synonyms ....!?

on my original presentation which I can save as with new name (which do
often when updating) - both the view in grayscale and b&w and the print in
same modes SHOWS the textured back ground !! when I copy slides to a options
/ thrown out presentation file, I can not get these slides to print or view
with background in b&W and gray scale...

????!!!!!

thanks yours but no help ... I'm using office 03 and view/black and white
doesn't exists .. you must go to view>color/grayscale - and there is no
"light gray scale" option .. right clilcking on an object in the presentation
gives you the standard selection window from cut to synonyms...

I know how to change view or print mode to grayscale or b'w but except for
one main presentation, all I get is view or print that does not contain the
background (using texture.dot as template) ON ONE presentation thought I can
get both a view and print that shows the background texture in both grayscale
& b&W

so obviously power point lets you do this ... but how!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's correct. PowerPoint can print in three different modes: full color,
grayscale or pure b/w.

When you choose these options from the View menu, you're telling PPT "Please
show me what my presentation will look like when you print it in this mode"

Now, once you're viewing the presentation in Grayscale or B/W mode, you can
right click on any shape and there'll be a new option on the pop-up menu. It'll
be called Grayscale Setting or B/W Setting, depending on which View mode you're
in. You may also see a Grayscale View toolbar with a Setting button. This does
the same thing: lets you choose HOW you'd like each shape to print in that
particular mode.

Here's the trick: to change the way a shape prints prints, you have to select
it, then change the settings. TO change the way the background prints, you
select NOTHING, then change the settings.

You can do this either on individual slides or on the slide master.
