Hello,

I try to use a nonadministrator account whenever possible.
However, sometimes I just have to do something that needs
administrator authority. I hate having to shut down all
my apps just so that I can log in as administrator. Is there
a way to get change the group of the currently logged in user
(change it to the administrators group) without logging out?
I want, for example, to look at scheduled tasks and see which
one is failing (I get a command window about a task failing).
As nonadministrator, I don't see all the tasks, just see my
own. Also, as nonadministrator, I can't bring up the antivirus
console. The exact AV program is not the issue, the problem of
having to become admin to do many things is what I'm trying to
address. I just presented the AV issue as an example of when I
want to force an update of the AV database but don't want to
log out of the nonadmin account.

Right now, I use cygwin, with sshd. I can sometimes ssh into
localhost as administrator e.g. to change file permissions.
For many things, I need more than command line access. Thus
the desire to change the group of the current user. However,
if it is possible to open up a small desktop as admin, that would
be helpful too. Without logging off the user account, that is.
Basically, a small desktop within a desktop.

Thanks.
