Certificate export option personal information exchange PKCS#12 greyed out

I'm trying to export a certificate from IE6.1 and the
option to choose Personal Information Exchange PKCS#12
(.PFX) is greyed out and can't be selected. The problem
occurs on multiple PC's, except one with IE 5.5.
How can I activate this option?
