I have an external DVD burner that recorders and plays all formats of media.
I also have an internal CD player. For some reason when I instert CDs in
either drive I get the message to insert a CD. I don't undrstand why neither
drive knows that there is a CD in them. It's the same kind of generic CD-R
CDs that I've been using for years. I just backed up a lot of pictures on a
CD in the DVD burner or so I though. It went through the entire process of
burning the pictures to the CD yet when I went to open the CD to check that
the pictures had actually be copied to my satisfaction I got that message;
Insert a CD. I'm at a loss. Please help.

What Make / Model CD + DVD do you have?

What 3rd Party CD application sofwtare do you have installed [such as Nero]?

With which application do you burn your CD and /or DVDs?

My DVD Burner is a NEC and the software is Nero Express. I do appreciate your
response but I've been working on this since about noon today and it's now
almost 10 PM here so I have been able to get this to work. I don't know why
but I was able to open the Nero Express and enter the files I wanted to burn.
It even went through the process of testing and burning the files with the
notification that the files had been successfully burned yet they weren't.
I don't know what was wrong but I started unplugging cables and re-plugging.
I was also re-booting occasionally. I did ruin my USB hub but that can be
replaced. I guess it was just some glitch. Who knows.
Thanks for trying to help me.
