I had used this very same CD-RW thousands of times before and recorded lots of CD perfectly. I can't understand why is this happening now. Pls help! Everytime I insert a CD (whether is it data or music) in the CD-RW device, my computer restarts as soon as it starts reading it . I was told that this is not a hardware-related problem, but that there must be some prob with windows xp. I have already tried everyth. sys restore, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, unistalling and reinstalling burning software, but nothing works. Besides, according to winxp, the device is working properly!!!
Is there any chance that some .dll is missing? Can anyone give me some advice? pleasE!!!!!!!!!!!

If you suspect some system file is missing, you can go to Start > Run
Put your XP CD in the CD ROM.
and type sfc /scannow (press enter) (there's a space between the c and
the forward slash)

This will check for missing or damaged system files and substitute
them for those in the CD. You might also want to know the location of
these folders: Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 and
Windows\system32\dllcache.

Afterwards, be sure to go to Windows Update and download any critical
patches.

Good luck
