CDRW Drive Gone Crazy

God only knows

My Philips CDRW1610A door keeps opening and closing, randomly, for no
reason, and the reading and writing light sometimes comes on, when the door
closes, though there is no disc in it. I've checked the connections to the
drive and they seem ok. The troubleshooter says it's working fine, and
indeed it will write, but sometimes open while just playing. Sometimes it
just stops and is fine for a wee while, then it starts again. I've tried
putting a vacuum cleaner nozzle at the open door to see if it would maybe
dislodge something that is causing the problem, but no joy. Anyone help me
with this - please? It's really annoying and will wear itself out before
long at this rate.

Have you scanned for trojans? This may well be one of the many NetBus
trojans that another can run from another PC, like what you're experiencing.
Look in your Task Manager for such a name under the processes tab.

If this isn't the case, I would then remove the CD drive from the Device
Manager, then reboot, and let Windows reinstall the driver for that drive.

The answer is blatantly obvious - the tray mechanism is broken - replacement
is the only option.
