Cool Runnings

I have a cd writer and cdrom on ide1. The cdrom has
suddenly started opening ang closing, sometimes rapidly
when it is not being used. The autoplay screen sometimes
opens up with a searching flashlight.
What has gone wrong?

sounds like a hardware issue ,check the jumpering and

I just started to have the same problem. It has to be a
software problem, because it was working properly prior
to a game installation. My Memorex 52 Maxx CD-R,RW is on
IDE1 master. My CD opens when I want it to (and sometimes
randomly), but it closes really fast.

I haven't seen anything on the knowledgebase for this nor
at the manufacturer's site.
 
Soudns two me like a trojan horse. Back Orifice and Sub7
along with many others will let a hacker do this with your
system. amke sure you have AntiVirus software and up-to-
date definitions. then scan your system.
