I just upgraded from Win98 to XP. The upgrade went well,
however afterward XP indicated my drivers were not
compatible for the CDROM or the CD R/W.

The both were enabled and listed in explorer. In fact, I
created a dup of a CD. Today when I turned the PC on,
the drives are no longer recognized.

When I try to uninstall and reinstall using config mgr,
it indicates a problem with the drive.

How do I fix this situation ?

This is the error displayed in Device Manager :
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.
The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

I tried to uninstall and then scan for new hardware with
the same results.

Thank you in advance for any ideas.

Did you have any CD burning software installed. Likely, it was a reference
to your burning software not being compatible, specifically either your
version of Direct CD or InCD, both have which require updated or current
versions to work with XP.

Please see the following Knowledge Base Article for help with this issue:

In fact I did have roxio Direct CD software loaded
previous to the upgrade. I followed these instructions to
fix the issue:
I am recommending a knowledgebase article that addresses
the issue that you have.

Thanks anyway for your reply.
