On closing down I get an 'end now' bow appearing referring to
CDirectoryChangerHelperWi

What is this program? How do I get rid of the window?

A Google for "CDDirectoryChangerHelper" brought me nothing so you'll
need to Sherlock this yourself. Something you have running has this
item associated with it and it is not exiting gracefully.

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the
malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what
programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

If you are sure the machine is clean and you can't remember what
changed, then go through this shutdown troubleshooter:

Does it happen after a fresh reboot, then shutdown without running anything?
If so it's associated with a program that's starting automatically. Do some
clean boot troubleshooting to sort it out.

If it doesn't happen after a fresh boot, then it's something you run after
you boot up.

Got rid ff about a dozen start up items and solved the problem - by heck the
machine flies along now!

That's great Trevor. Can you tell us what startup item was responsible for
the problem?
