Just toodling around on my machine and found a log file in
Windows folder.
It looks like it was created by CDBurnerXP and it`s 35.5 Megs
in size.
Can others check their windows folder ?.

I'm running win2ksp4. Checking under \Winnt (the "windows folder"), I'm
not finding any file over 15 MB. No properties to connect the bigger
files w/cburnerxp.

in Winnt\Installer, found about 7 files under a subdirectory w/a name
that looks to be randomly generated. But these only add up to less than
a Meg.

What's the file's name and how does it look like it was created by
cdburnerxp?

Hi Craig. When I`m doing a CCleaner cleanup, I always run my eye
down the list.
Good thing to do before you zap them I think.
I noticed this 35.5 Meg file and went to view it (windows folder).
It was just a monster log file, started with the word disk something
..log.
I`ve cleaned it now, but it turned up 2 days ago according to its
date. That`s when I used CDBurnerXP.
Very weird ( and rather large !)

I can remember when hard drives weren`t that big <g>.

I have no logfiles in my CDBurnerXP folder.
It sounds like an accumulated log file of burning activities which is
added to each time you burn a CD. Maybe there's a setting in the
options to switch it off.

The OP said he'd found the log file in his "windows" folder. I took
that to mean where the windows system files and a lot of other log files
are kept (\WINNT on my system).

But, when I checked there...no logs pointing to CDBurnerXP, no logs
approaching 1MB, let alone 35+.

There's no obvious logging options in my ver (3.0.116). I just
checked...the size of the proggy download is just over 11MB.

Indeed, I did also check my Windows folder and I don't have one there
either. In fact I've just checked *all* logfiles on my C:\ drive and
there's nothing related to CDburnerXP.

I wonder if he means 35k bytes, not 35mb?

That's the same version I'm using.
mystery of mysteries,

I think he will have to post the filename and sample contents to get
some serious help. I haven't burned a CD with this proggy for a while
but IIRC there's an option after burning, to view/save a log file and
my original thinking was that it could be added to each time a CD is
burnt.

I ckecked and although I did not have that file you referred to, but I do
have a file "diskwriter.log" at 25 Megs. Anyone know where this might have
come from? I do not have a "Diskwriter" program on my system.

Dave;

Daan Systems has a free app by the name of Diskwriter. Could it be
this? http://www.daansystems.com/freestuff

Hi guys I`m back. I`m in two minds( not unusual for me ,g>).
to do a system restore but...
I remembered some info on that log file, and yes it was 35.5 MEG.
Anyway, NCT stuck in my mind, so I googled and came up with..

In NCTDiscWriter there are 4 ActiveX DLLs:

a.. DataDVDWriter2 for recording DVD discs;
b.. DataCDWriter2 for recording data CDs;
c.. AudioCDWriter2 for recording audio CDs;
d.. AudioCDGrabber2 for ripping audio CDs.
It appears people can write Apps with these, so I wondered if
CDBurnerXP uses them.
It`s a thought.

Someone;

You got it! CDBurnerXP is written in VB6 and uses the burning libraries
from NCTSoft's NCTDiscWriter. So, the log file is back on the table.
-What version of CDBurnerXP are you using?
-Have you saved a lot of "playlists" or cover design stuff?

Just last week, I installed CDBurnerXP, ran it a handfull of times to see if
I liked it. The installation file is "cdbxp_3.5.101.6_alpha.exe.....must be
version 3.5.10. That's is where the DiskWriter.log probably came from.

Thanks, Dave

I took a look at this:

<quote> Diskwriter is a small utility to write disk image files to a floppy
disk. It can be used to write bootdisks for operating systems. Very nice is
that this utility works on Windows 95/98/NT4 and 2000. Since the different
operating systems use different methods to write to a disk, different
methods are implemented. It probably only works for 1.44 MB disks. </quote>

It seems unlikely that a program designed to write to 1.44 floppies would
produce 25 MB logfile, but strange things can happen.

There are also few other freeware programs on this page.

All I did, was a CD for a pal. Consisted of 30 tracks of Dr Demento.
he wanted to give his mates at work a laugh.
But 35.5 log is a bit much ??.
