On many CD and DVD drives there is a small hole in the front panel where you
can insert a thin object that will eject the tray.

Thank you, but there isn't any place like that.

What brand is your DVD/CD drive?

I have one LG DVD-ROM/CD-RW and a LiteOn DVD-RW/CD-RW drive and both have
the "release" hole.

Do you have the instruction manual - perhaps it gives tips on how to open
the drive in such a situation (if not a user manual, then the drive's
manufacturer website?

there is a small hole as described. I use a straightened paper clip to eject
stuck trays.
the hole is very small, but I have yet yo see a CD/DVD deck without one.
But I only maintain 250 machines...

sometimes the button on the deck will go bad, but sometimes the CD can be
ejected by opening My Computer, right clicking on the offending drive and
selecting EJECT from the menu.

Is this a Vista issue? Any long term solution? My Gateway is less than a
week old.

Like buddy, I don't see a hole but ejected the CD through My Computer,
after a few tries.
