I upgraded to Windows XP and now my CD-RW is only able to read disks, and only disks that have something already burned on it. I have made sure that it is designated as a burner in the registry. It has the recording tab in the properties and seems set up to burn but it will not recognize a disk.

It is a Teac R-155s. Worked fine on Windows 2000.
Help !
not too old to learn

Hi
after upgrading you will have to install the burning software again for xp. make sure that the software drivers are compatible for xp and then reinstall the software.

Huh? XP has it's own built-in CDR(W) writing capabilities. There's
no need to "install the burning software again" to enable XP to write
CDR(W)s.

Nor will an upgrade erase Nero or Roxio.

Found out that my burner (TEAC CD-R 155s)will not work as a burner in windows. Checked out on the manufacturers websight that windows only recognizes it as a reader so have to use a burning software program. Thanks for the help everyone.

But the inbuilt burning does not work how he probably expects, having
had Direct CD or InCD. All it does is stash files up, to be burned as a
batch *on specific later instruction*. And installing XP *does*disable
those packet writing packages. See my page

Hey I have a Pioneer CDR which came with Toshiba Lap it now say it is not
working and I can't find the drive on my computer. I did the unistall and
reinstall and it gives me a error code of 37. I borrowed a extrernal CDR and
tried to see if Windows XT would recognize it and got the same code. I tried
to go back to a previous set up and it advised me that it would not correct
the Drive E which used to be my CDR. Can any one advise any suggesions for
Error Code 37.
