CD-RW failure

In a Sony WinXP machine, which has CD-ROM & CD-RW drives, all work normally,
but

I can not use WinXP copy function to copy any file to CD-RW
Nero, Adaptec and CD maker, etc. every CD copy software will fail to
recognize one of the two CD drives

Any suggestion?

try this if you are OK with BIOS adjustments.

Shut down your comp.

Restart Comp and press DEL key

Page down to Advanced BIOS Features,

On this page scroll down to Delay For IDE Initial (secs) If the setting is
set at default, 0, increase it to say 3.

F10 and save on exit

I installed an old hard drive (slave)which suffered the same problem as you
are experiencing, sometimes the BIOS would see it sometimes No. An expert
gave me the above info and it recognised the drive every time thereafter
