sorry about posting this twice but I accidently sent the
last one incomplete.

I recently installed XP on a new computer with an OS. I
used the XP CD as boot and everything I think installed
correctly. Then I tryed install other CDs and this
happened:
"The system cannot read from the specified device" is
what Windows installer tells me when I put in the
Microsoft office CDs (all 3)

"InstallShield Setup Launcher has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience" is
what it says when I put my POWERDVD XP CD.

To top everything else DVD's WILL work
I am Frustrated

Try copying the contents of the install CD to a folder on
your desktop temporarily and install from there.

Now saying "Canot copy setup: The request could not be
performed because of an I/O device error. Any advice for
that? appreciate any input

I tryed that and this what the message error says "Cannot
copy setup: The request could not be performed because
of an I/O device error. Any more advice would be
appreciated.

Try the disc in another drive on the same system if you
have one. If not, then another system. It can help you
determine if the discs are bad.

So, that leaves either a bad drive or something wrong with
the O/S. Try the office CD's in that drive in another
system. If the problem persists, the drive is bad. If
you can read the CD's fine, then there is something wrong
with Windows on your system.
