My cd-rom quit working. I looked in device manager and
it tells me the cd-rom is working properly. I tried to
update the driver but xp says I'm already using the best
driver. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi Tommy
I have seen the same and still looking for a fix. Have you
try to restart the PC with a CD-Rom inside the CD-rom
drive ? when I do this the CD-Rom drive are working but if
I boot without a cd-rom inside the drive I see the same
problem. It also the same with a USB Smart media reader. I
hope someone know a way to fix this. I thinking of Re-
install Windows XP to see if that help. I have a Windows
XP Pro (Danish Vers.)

I have the exact same problem. Power works to
open/close drawer and then tries to read but light just
blinks. device manager and troubleshooting says
everything is working properly. Please someone help
us....this is my cd-rw drive so it I can't make back
ups.!!!!

Add another computer to the list. Device Manager says both my CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives are enabled and working properly, but I can't open either one. The light comes on, there's a whirring sound, and the drive stays close. Can't open either by pushing the eject button or selecting eject from the right mouse button menu

Did notice one thing - WMI can't find 2 Win32 servers (win32_processor and win32_operating system). Don't know if this is related to the drive problem or not.

My cd-rom wont open either, no matter what i've tried it wont eject the computer is fairly new and i;m fairly pissed off!
The orange lights is stuck on too
Any help would be appreciated

I've got the exact same problem as Tommy
I.E. Put a cd in the drive (music or software all orriginal) and i get the green light on the CDRW drive but nothing happens, don't even get the usual whirring sound.
In device manager it says drive working, no updated drivers available and i've tried uninstalling drivers but no luck.
Although if i right click on my cdrw drive short-cut and go to properties/general it comes up with "The name 'D:\' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the path and file name are corect."
Any help will be much appreciated
