My cd drive is not acting properly. When I turn on the computer, it goes
into one of two states. One: the bios notifies me that the hardware
configuration has been automatically configured to include the CD drive
(Samsung sc-140Q), in which case the cd light stays on; or Two: I get the
same notification except without the CD drive and the drive lights stays
off. Either way, I can not even get the cd drive to eject. When the light
stays on, windows recognizes it and tells me the device is working properly
but it clearly is not. This started shortly after I installed Windows XP
Home edition. I also was using iTunes in case it could have caused this
problem. The CD drive and startup were all working fine for a week or so
after I installed XP and iTunes. HELP - dave

The autoplay fix does not help. My problem seems to be bios related.
Example: I popped the drive door open and pulled the tray out a little.
Normally, it would go back in as soon as I turn the computer on. As it is,
it never goes back in. One last note to add to my info below. When the
bios notifies me that the hardware configuration has been automatically
changed, it also says "Note: If you are using Unix, you need to run bios
setup." I am not using Unix but this made me think it may be ipod related.
In the Windows compatible hardware list, Samsung SC-140 cd-drives are listed
but not the sc-140Q specifically. Could this be the problem? If so, why was
it working and now its not? Maybe the drive died? Suggestions or advice
please. Dave
