Good Day,

I have a Inspiron 8200 system running Windows XP Home with SP2. I have two
CD Rom drives on this system, primary and secondary. One is a burner the
other is a basic CD Reader. I found that when I insert a CD and then pop
out the CD the label in My computer does not clear. I can put another CD in
and I can open it up with no issues but the label is the same as the
original CD that I put in. If I eject the cd (from right clicking) and then
put another CD in it will clear with time. I have done the following

I have tested the hardware and it came out clean with no issues
I have checked for new firmware with no luck on Dell site
I have updated the Bios to the latest version
I have installed a clean copy of XP and find the same issue with out
installing any drivers at all

Is there a fix out there that anybody knows about or can somebody make some
suggestions that I can try.

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for posting! I am sorry for the long delay due to server
sychronization.

I understand that the CD- Rom Label doesn't update on a Windows XP machine.
If I have misunderstood your concern please feel free to let me know.

First please help me know if the issue occurs on both the CD Rom and the
Burner Rom.

Based on my experience I suggest you disable AutoPlay feature, you may do
it via group policy. You may refer to the following:

1. Click "Start->Run" type "gpedit.msc" and click "OK"
2. Locate to "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Turn
off Autoplay"
3. Enable it.

If the issue persists I suggest you perform the following test.

Test 1. Uninstall any CD burning applications temporarily if you have and
test the issue.

Test 2. Please boot the system into Safe Mode environment and test the
issue. Safe Mode loads a minimally protected-mode configuration, disabling
Windows device drivers and using the standard VGA display adapter.

1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On
a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems,
you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.
2. In "Windows Advanced Option Menu", use the arrow keys to select Safe
Mode with Networking, and then press ENTER.
3. If you are running other operating systems on the computer, click
Microsoft Windows on the list that is displayed and then press ENTER.

Can the issue be reproduced?

Hope the information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
feel free to let me know.

Best Regards,

Jason Tan
