CD Read/Write between 2 different XPs

I have CDs that were written on via my PC which has an upgraded version of XP
(home edition with service pack 2) but my new laptop which came with XP won't
read them. The laptop XP wants to format the disk (which is not an option
given on the upgraded version). So I removed and saved the documents then
formatted the disk and saved a document from the laptop, but now the PC won't
read the disk - it says I don't have access to it, when/if it finally comes
up with any message at all. For me, this points more to an incompatibility
between the two XPs. Please does anyone have any ideas? Is there some sort
of setup configuration I need to change?

You probably created the CD with packet-writing software. You need the
packet-writing software installed on the new computer or a UDF Reader.
Roxio and Nero offer one for free, I believe.
