Is it possible within Powerpoint 2003 to choose which CD-R-burner, one would
like to use?
I have two machines connected and Powerpoint automatically (and exclusively
as it seems) chooses my less prefered one.
Thanx

I suspect that it has to do with the cabling. I was beta testing someone's
product that backed up my files to CD or DVD, but it just wouldn't let me use my
DVD drive so that I could use DVD-Rs. I questioned the developers and I think I
was told to recable my two drives, making the DVD drive the "primary". After
doing that, the software began directing output to my DVD drive.

Hmmm. Now that I think harder about it, maybe it was only a BIOS change that I
made, making the DVD drive the bootable external drive. Anyway it was one of
the two, and in either case not an easy change for the average user.

You can always use Package to Folder and then use Windows XP or your CD burning
software and you'll be able to control which drive is used.

Yeah, I think PPT automatically goes to the one with the drive letter
closest to A. I know that it does that when playing CD tracks, anyway....

Hmm. Can you swap 'em around by changing drive letters in Disk Manager then?

I don't think so. I have two burners - - E: and F:. Package for CD always
wants to write to F:. If I change E: to M:, Package for CD still tries to
write to F:. In BIOS, E: is Primary and F: is Secondary. So I don't know how
Windows picks the drive. Maybe it always picks the Secondary, or maybe it reads
your mind and knowing which one you want it to pick, it picks the other one.

That's what I was wondering. But seeing Sonia's post, I guess it won't work.

I was just thinking that if PPT always looks to the "lowest" drive letter
for CD inserts, if Package for CD worked the same, then maybe remapping
would work for both of those...

Ah, well, it was a thought. <g>

Renaming your CD drives and flipping them alphabetically will change which one
PowerPoint looks to when it encounters an inserted music object set to play CD
tracks. In my case (E: and F:) PowerPoint always looks for the CD in E:. If I
rename E: to M: then PowerPoint looks for the CD in F:.

That'd be just SO Windows, wouldn't it? I've got one machine with two writers,
but it's Win2k. One's IDE, t'other's Firewire, so not only can't I test this, but
any tests I did if I could probably wouldn't be relevant. Sigh.

Ah, cool, so I wasn't totally wrong -- just wrong in thinking it might work
for Package for CD, too.

Thanks for the info!

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the Critical
Update or Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 as soon as possible. From
PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for Updates".]

[TOP ISSUE - Are you having difficulty opening presentations in PowerPoint
that you just created (you can save, but not open)? -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820]

Hello,

PowerPoint uses the Windows IMAPI feature to burn a CD directly from within
the Package for CD feature. Because of this, the method for specifying the
CD burner to use on a system with multiple CD burners should be the same as
it is for specifying the same for the Windows Explorer copy files to CD
feature.

1) Start -> My Computer
2) Select the icon for the CD burner you want PowerPoint to use
3) Alternate-Click on the icon and choose "Properties" from the context
menu that appears
4) In the "Recording" tab, select the option to "Enable CD recording on
this drive", then
5) Click "OK"

Since only one CD burner per system is allowed to have this option checked
(Windows IMAPI limitation), this becomes the "default" CD Recording drive
for Windows Explorer and, hence, for PowerPoint 2003.

If this doesn't work then there's something really weird going on and you
might have to resort to using the Windows Device Manager to disable the CD
recorder drivers that you don't want PowerPoint to use (of course they
would be disabled for everything else as well).

Writing a documentation on PPT XP I need to have some Screenshots of this version (XP/2002). I would be thankful if somebody could send me the following screenshots:

1.) Drop down file menu
(it would be sufficient to have a screenshot of the whole working screen from which I can cut a small part.).
2.) Dialogue “Options” – index card “Save”
3.) Dialogue “Options” – index card “Edit”
4.) Dialogue “File” – dialogue box “Page setup”
5.) Dialogue box “Print”

I hope the English terms I used in my explanation are correct. I only have a German PPT version and was forced to translate the names.

Many thanx in advance
