On my old computer, with Windows 98, I copied some photos
onto CD-R discs using Adaptec CD Creator. I recently
purchased a new computer which has Window XP and Roxio
Direct CD software. When I install the CD into the new
computer, I can't access the files. (They don't even show
up in Explorer) Any suggestions?

1) If you delete (or attempt to delete) a file from a CD-
R disc, does it make the disc unaccessible?
2) Is there any way to retrieve data off such a disc?

Thanks for any help.

Did you finalise the CD? If not, you possibly will only be able to view it
with the software with which it was created.

The cd may be scratched and unreadable. Is it possible
the cd is actually a cd-rw and has been erased?

1)You cannot delete a file from a cd-r. it is read-
only. U could however scratch the disk making it
unreadable.
2)Does the data still show up when u put it in ur other
pc? If it does, u can try copying it from the disk to ur
hdd and then it'd be on that computer and u'd have a wide
range of options like trying to reburn it (although i
doubt that would make a difference) or using a cross-over
cable (or ur home network) to transfer the files from one
pc to the other.

Win98 uses fat32 and WinXP will use either fat32 or
NTFS. I think u can still transfer the files, or at
least have them show up even if u had formated the winxp
computer to be ntfs so that rules out my idea of it being
the file sytem difference between the OSs.
