CD Music not playing after XP Upgrade

Followed Will's advice and went through the steps. The CD ROM is working
with data CD's but still not with Music CD's. Checked the sound card and it
is playing system sounds. When I put a CD in, it loads, I can see it in the
explorer bar, and open it and see the tracks, but when I click to play one
it says the CD Device is empty.

To reiterate, the system was upgraded from W98 to XP PRO. It has an ATAPI
52X CD-ROM, which I finally tracked to Toshiba. There site has NO downloads
for XP (it says there are no driver issues). Went through the
Troubleshooting steps on XP and it said to go to manuafacturer site (BIG
HELP!). Nothing in the TechNet about this Atapi Drive.

Any ideas anyone?

Is there a wire connected from cdrom drive to sound card? Or is your setup
capable of digital sound? Is Media Player (the default player for XP) set
up for digital sound or analog?

PS : Check Volume controls>Properties and place a check in CD Audio. Back
in the main Volume Control window, uncheck Mute or adjust sound level if
necessary.
