can anyone refresh my memory of how to search for the cd key for my winxp?

Here are two utilities which will display your product key:
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
and: http://www.nirsoft.net
Note: Also check the side of your PC case or bottom of the laptop for the
OEM key code. If there is a sticker with the code it will most likely not
match what is displayed by a utility as OEMs such as Dell use an internal
key code. The key code on the sticker is for use with your CD.

Right click My Computer and select Properties.
It's listed on the General tab under Registered to.

Wesley you should know better than this.
That number is just the product registration number. It is not the CD
key.
