It is a violation ot the EULA to install Windows on more than one
machine at a time; one license per computer and the Activation and
Validation processes are intended to prevent this.

Start, Run, type in:

eula.txt

press Enter, read it.

This is not that I philosophically agree with the terms, but you decide
for yourself.

Carey, you apparently missed the part where he said he installed it on a
second machine, implying that he's got two installations from the same
license, hense the failed validation. I could be wrong about that,
though, but that's the impression I got.

The OP isn't clear whether he has installed the same copy on two machines or
this new copy was for the second machine only. The way I read it was that
the new copy he purchased from Ebay is what he used on the second machine
only but who knows? ;-)

BTW to the OP just because it was sealed is not a guarantee. The orginal
purchaser could have simply made copies and then repackaged and sold it.
The way I see it though if you indeed have an original CD copy, with
Microsoft emblems on the CD, then you should now be the rightful owner. A
call to Microsoft should help you with that but it might require some kind
of proof.

What, exactly, does the message state? What specific kind of license
did you purchase? Was it an OEM license? If so, did it come with a
computer or other non-peripheral piece of hardware? If not, you may
well have been defrauded.

Actually, it's quite unlikely that you obtained a legitimate license
via eBay. One must be very careful buying any software on eBay, as eBay
makes no prior effort to ensure that such sales are legitimate; they
react only when someone files a complaint. (And then all that really
happens is the seller of the pirated software returns using a different
alias, to continue selling illegitimate licenses.)

I agree, the OP is unclear. Your interpretation is as valid as the next.
Was just stating my impression, of course. :)

Of course you are correct that a call to M$ _might_ be helpful, but only
if he has proof that he bought a truly valid release of the OS, complete
with COA, etc.
