CD Keeps trying to read when CD is out

On Windows XP-Home
When I remove a CD the cursor-arrow keeps blinking a CD
symbol, like it's trying to read a CD that isn't there??

I've tried to "trick-it" by putting in a CD and removing
it but it still is searching.

I seem to be having a slightly similar problem. My CD-ROM drive light
keeps popping on like it's searching for a cd but there is nothing
there. Also, my mouse keeps blinking with a cd symbol. Can anyone
help?
 
Had a spyware (CD_Load) which kept trying to read the CDs. Once I cleared
it (with Ad-Aware, Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.3), my system behaves!.
