CD Information Doesn't Change/Refresh

Anyone else experiencing a problem with the CDROM drive icon not refreshing
to display the CD that is actually in the drive?

For example, I have my Diablo II LOD Expansion CD in the drive and it shows
the proper CD name and icon. When I eject the CD and refresh my drive
listing, it SHOULD just show CD Drive with the default icon, but it doesn't!
If I put another CD in my system it STILL shows the Diablo II CD
information, even after refreshing. I thought it was something messed up,
and since it was time for my yearly reinstall I figured that would fix it,
but I was wrong.

It doesn't matter of autorun is on or off, and it is happening on more than
1 computer, both my laptop at home and my PC at work. I have to log off
(sometimes even reboot) before it displays the right CD information, but
then it just messes up again. This has been happening ever since I started
using XP a few years ago at work. If anyone else has seen this and possibly
has a solution, please let me know. Thanks!

Oh and just to let you know, this is not the problem listed in the knowledge
base that was suppsoedly corrected with service pack 1. I have my system
updated with all the latest patches. The content refreshes fine (once I
actually use explorer to go into the cd drive). If I double click on the
drive, it won't launch the proper autorun file (doesn't know which one to
launch) because it's still trying to find the autorun file from the disc
that it still thinks is in the drive.

I'm seeing that happen as well. I don't have an answer, other
than it started happening after one of the updates that was
applied last year, I'm thinking November or December of
2003. I'm seeing it on a couple computers myself as well.

yes i do get this once in a while and a reboot will not always take care of it. all i do is right click the drive and click eject, and yes i mean w\o the cd in there, and when you close the door it should refresh.

I've logged off and logged back on to fix it. But it's like you say
not a permanent fix. It's a little quicker than a full reboot.

Common and very huge bug in XP. Good luck!

Workarounds listed here that work for some:

Suggestions:

Open My Computer, right click on the CD Rom in question,
Properties/Hardware/Properties/Volumes/Populate.

Other than that, this problem can occur if you are using Folder view in
Windows Explorer. The view may not be automatically refreshed in Folder view
in Windows Explorer.

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:

Manually refresh Windows Explorer by pressing F5 or by clicking Refresh on
the View menu in Windows Explorer. And/or Do not use Folder view in Windows
Explorer.
