Are there any issues one should consider when adding an external DVD-writer
to a LapTop running WinXP (Pro), already equipped with a CD-writer?

Software - NERO 6.6

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I added a USB2.0 external enclosure with a DVD burner to a Sony laptop
running WinXP Home that already had a CD burner. No problems.

Thanks Jimbo, this is a Sony LT as well.
Looks like the Nero OEM version supplied with the external Sony DVD writer
only allows one (1) writer. I understand, the Retail version allows four
(4).

Dump all OEM version of any CD/DVD writing software and buy a retail
software kit. This way, you can still use BOTH drives. If you do not then
you may have software issues when you come to "burn" a disc.

You have a point, right along my line of thinking, when I upgraded to the
Retail
from the OEM version. Unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue.
I will next try to install the Retail version from the download, by-passing
the OEM,
but have my doubts, it is permissable with the upgrade s/n I have.
Regardless, thanks for your input.
