Cd/dvd rom non existent on computer

All of a sudden my cd/dvd rom is non existent on my computer and i cant even open the drive, can anyone help me??
 
I too had my CD-ROM "disappear", though it still functions. I did NOT lose
my CD burner drive, only CD-ROM. tried this fix but it didn't work. I
followed another one of your posts suggesting the manual removal of the
filters through the regedit process, but I did this after trying the "Knox
fix". I found no files that could be identified as filters.

Is there maybe another fix? Seems strange that I can use the drive, it will
play CDs, but it doesn't show up as a drive in "My Computer" or as a "source"
drive on my Nero burner application.
