cd/dvd rom icon

i went to play a cd today and the icon in my data machine has disappeared
any ideas where it has gone or how to get it back??
 
What icon are you refering to? Device icon, CD player software icon? Need
more information.
 
the icon in my data machine, the one you would open the contents of the
inserted cd with...there is also no sign of it in device manager.
my computer is fs amilo pro if it helps
