A CD and a DVD drive are installed in the system. They
work fine under Windows 2000. Under Windows XP, the
Explorer windows shows all of the hard drives, but the
the CD or DVD drive. They do appear under the hardware
list and are working OK.

How do I get Explorer to show these drives?

Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the icons, and note the drive
letters assigned.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP!, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its My Computer - Drives page, ensure that the letters concerned are
checked. And make sure that they do not clash with letters assigned to
network drives.
