cd, dvd burning

I have a Toshiba Satellite that came with Matshita (pioneer) dvd-ram player
and burner. has been working fine but now it will read and play all types
(cds and dvds) but it will not burn anything in any program (windvd, real
player, windows media player, and so on ...nothing) it says no rewritable
drive detected. going crazy here any help would be nice...thanks

There are two lasors one could be burned out
if so replace the drive

no error messages...just the statement "no rewritable drive detected" thats
all it says on any program i try

Search your model # at the above site for info, patches, firmware updates,
etc..
Are you sure you have a CD/DVD-RW drive..?
Find the ID string and FW info with the Nero Infotool see link (example)..

It says on the end of it DVD..multi recorder..compact disc rewritable...RW
dvd rewritable if that helps any..thanks

Crunk, listen up..

Look through the above Google search and decide, ver 1.04 looks new, there
are some sites that offer 1.03 & 1.02 as well.. You need to be careful,
flashing the firmware is usually safe, but a bad flash can toast the drive,
be warned.. It is imperative that you have Nero, Roxio or the burning
software that came with the computer and or optical drive.. You really need
to verify this first, the firmware update won't help if you don't have the
appropriate burning software installed..

Here is an update ver 3.0 Nero InfoTool use it to verify installed burning
software first, please..http://www.nero.com/en/Info_Tool.html (The other ver
is older, replace it with this one)..
Also, please check the model # of the Toshiba Satellite you own on the
Toshiba site I provided previously or Google search it yourself and
investigate, as always draw your own conclusions..

Try this,it might help:
Click on Start>Run and type regedit then press Enter, then navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Highlight the above key by left clicking on it once.
In the right hand side window delete the values 'Upperfilters' and
'Lowerfilters' if either or both are present.
Reboot your pc.
