CD drives not found

Running WinXP home, hardware says drivers for cd/dvd
drives is loaded but it can't find the devices. BIOS
knows they're there, doors open so they seem to be
working ok. Win claims it can't find these devicec. What
gives? Tried removing devices in control panel, Windows
then finds them and installs software, but control panel
says the're not there. How do I fix this?

Control panel won't have them,they show in My

Computer.Go to start,,,My computer,,,se devices with
removable storage,under it you'll see them,mine shows
A:floppy D: CD\RW E: CD\DVD\RW
If you do not have my computer from your start menu,do
this right click on your start button,,,click
custom,,,advance tab,,,under my computer put the bullet
in display as a link,,,OK,,,apply,,,OK then look for
it.Are they there if not post back here to this
tread,You'll never find them in the control panel.
