For those who might suddenly find that their CD drive become unreadable and
fail to resolve the problem. Some have even sent their computer for repair
thinking it is a hardware problem. Before you do check this discussion out
first. It could be due to iTunes installation:

I found that an easy solution to this problem is to restore your operarting
system/registery to a version prior to when you installed itunes/quicktime.
This can be done by, wiht a Windows XP operating system: (1) start your
system in safe mode (usually done by pressing F8 during computer startup),
but when prompted to select 'yes' for safe mode or 'no' to eneter system
restore, select 'no' for system restore.

(2) When you enter system restore, select a date prior to the itunes install
and follow the rest of the prompts.

I have had this prombem arise twice due to two installs of itunes, and this
process corrected the problem each time when other attempts to correct had
failed.

Good Luck,

Uchdman
