CD-Drive hangs the computer

I'm experiencing this problem since 3-4 Weeks on four different systems with
WXP SP2 and Windows 2003 Server R2.

As soon as I put a disk into the CD-Drive the first time after the Computer
starts, it can be (in most cases) read and worked with. As soon as I change
the disk and try to open MyComputer, it hangs completely (in most cases, and
always if the new disk is DVD). Nothing but a white window is seen. The same
if I open the CMD and try to go to the CD-Drive: it just does not react.
There is no way (not even the task manager) to get out of a problem, just
hard re-starting of the system.

As a remark: it is possible to uninstall the CD-Drive in the
hardwaremanager, let it seek for new hardware. The CD-Drive will be found
and it can be used again (one time!)

I'm using the German versions of OS.

Does anyone have ideas?

Thanks

Hallo,

I don't have McAffee and I have already tried to shut down my TrendMicro and
the Defender - it does not help.

I really know how to work with the event-viewer. There is nothing there -
absolutely nothing.

Any more Ideas?

Thank you

Alexander Lerner

I shall suggest you to look at the Event Viewer to find out what's causing
the problem.
